Educational Requirements Pediatric Subspecialty Certification Updates
Letter from the American Board of Urology
modified on 8/14/2007
The Trustees of the American Board of Urology have reviewed the policy regarding eligibility for the Pediatric Subspecialty Certification process for individuals who completed an ACGME-approved fellowship in pediatric urology between July 1, 1998 and August 1, 2008. The Trustees voted unanimously to grant a variance of the two-year fellowship requirement to all of these individuals. This variance is automatic and there is no need to send a letter of request to the American Board of Urology. There will be no variance granted for individuals who complete an ACGME-approved fellowship of one year after August 1, 2008.
Applicants who completed urology residency training prior to July 1, 1997, must have completed a one year clinical pediatric urology fellowship acceptable to the American Board of Urology, or had at least a 10-year period of pediatric urology practice, but will not be required to complete an ACGME-accredited fellowship. These individuals will not be admissible to the pediatric subspecialty certification process after June 1, 2010.
