Letter from the Pediatric Subspecialty Certification Exam Committee Pediatric Subspecialty Certification Updates
The American Board of Urology is finalizing the plans and process for obtaining Subspecialty Certification in Pediatric Urology. General information regarding the requirements for qualification along with the application material will be disseminated to all Board Certified members once it is completed. This should be forthcoming in the next few months.
A computerized Pediatric Subspecialty Certifying Exam (PSCE) will be held in Pearson Learning Centers at the same location and in a similar fashion to what is now undertaken for the initial ABU qualifying exam. The PSCE will be a 100 item examination. It will cover all the major domains of pediatric urology similar to those that were covered on the Pediatric Urology In-service Examination. In addition, candidates will be tested on core competencies now an integral part of urology resident education. There is no pre-determined pass rate for the exam. The ABU expects the successful candidate will demonstrate a minimum level of core knowledge about pediatric urology. The anticipated date for the first PSCE is April 2008. The ABU pediatric exam committee is currently working with the ESPU creating an electronic Pediatric Self Assessment Program. This should be a useful aid to those studying for the examination.
Sincerely,

David B. Joseph, M.D.
