MEMBERSHIP IN THE SOCIETY FOR PEDIATRIC UROLOGY

Membership Chair: Patrick Cartwright, M.D.

Individuals who have a significant interest in pediatric urology may apply for membership in the Society for Pediatric Urology (SPU). There are seven types of membership in the SPU: Active, Fellow, Affiliate, Corresponding, Senior, Honorary and Candidate.

Active Members are urologists who practice more than 50% pediatric urology. Active members must belong to either the American Urological Association or the Royal College of Surgeons and must take the Pediatric Urology In-Service Exam within 2 years of application. A full CV and list of publications is required. Applicants for Active Membership must be sponsored by an SPU Active or Senior Member and must also be endorsed by two Active or Senior SPU Members. Applicants must also submit a completed Operative Log.

Fellows are Active Members who perform 100% pediatric urology and participate in at least 15 hours of category 1 CME continuing medical education related to pediatric urology per year. All Fellows must be Active Members, but can be elected to Active membership and Fellowship simultaneously. Applicants for Fellowship must have taken the Pediatric Urology In-Service Exam the year prior to making application, and if the applicant has finished his or her urology residency after 1998, must have completed an accredited fellowship in pediatric urology. Fellowship applications require one letter of endorsement from an Active or Senior member of the SPU and 2 letters from urologists practicing in the area attesting that the applicant limits their practice to pediatric urology. Applicants must also submit a completed Operative Log.

Candidate Members are those urologists currently enrolled in an accredited Pediatric Urology Training Program, or who have recently completed a Pediatric Urology Fellowship or Training Program and are board eligible in Urology.
